The Final Stage Hidden Layers and Movement

Beneath the hidden layers - the final evolution of my latest botanical piece, plus a new silk scarf inspired by the 70s

After sharing the early flow states and difficult middle of this piece with you, I'm excited to share its completion. After carefully thinning the background filigree and considering my next steps, the painting has emerged into its final form.

The background holds a secret that only we share - those early layers of splotchy blues now rest beneath a veil of black. While I felt a moment of sadness watching those experimental marks disappear, I knew they needed to step back to let the story unfold. I did something I rarely do and added pure black to achieve the depth I was seeking.

The filigree in the background now sits perfectly muted, allowing the pea plants to emerge with vibrant life. There's something gratifying in knowing these hidden layers exist, like we're all in on a little secret together.

The finished piece has found its balance - with bright, living plants dancing against their mysterious backdrop. It's a piece that adds movement and interest to a space, with details that reveal themselves slowly over time, inviting the eye to wander and discover.

Once this piece is ready for release, you'll be the first to know.

In the meantime, I've added a new silk scarf to my collection - a vibrant, kaleidoscopic pattern inspired by the free-spirited energy of the 1970s. Bold orange lines weave through energetic florals, creating a design that blends earthy elements with confidence-boosting colours. You'll find it below.

Thank you for being here.

Best,
Olivia
