I wanted big results but instead got building blocks.
As we rolled into the last quarter of the year, I was feeling overwhelmed. I had too many projects going at once and felt like none got the attention they deserved. But sometimes that's how life goes, and you just gotta go with it.
I got a small portfolio together that I can use to apply to kid friendly jobs. Experimenting and playing with different styles, was really enjoyable because it showed me a new box that I can work within, and working within constraints is actually artistically freeing, they force you to think creatively and find novel solution when you cant rely on the ones you're used to.

The large painting of the light ray is still in the same state as it was when you saw it last, but it has moved to a new location in my apartment. My equipment and work areas were scattered through out the apartment: a space for painting in my living room, and another desk and small painting setup in my bedroom. It all needed to be conglomerated. So, everything art related got moved into its own zone and now there is a dedicated work/art corner. Its helpful to have everything that I need for work all in one place, it cuts down on metal load and allows me to more easily mentally switch tasks.

I want to make a small display of scarves for a store my friend owns. If you have been with me for a while, it was the same store that I did a pop-up in November of 2022. Kismet was on my side, as when I walked home from chatting with her, I came across a yard sale where a mannequin head and shoulders were on sale. I'm currently working on refinishing and repainting that mannequin to make it a display form for the shop and so I can take photos of scarves on it. Here's the very creepy doll in the current state of its transformation.

These projects all feel disconnected, but knowing myself, I know that one will inform the other and then make its way into the third. I just don't know how yet. I guess this could be considered leaning into the process, trusting my subconscious in that its guiding me in the right direction. I think this is something more universal though, its what makes every person unique; the connections they build between disparate parts.
