Finding Balance in the Mysterious
Working through the challenging middle stage of a work in progress, where vibrant colours merge and delicate forms emerge. Every mark tells part of the story.
I want to share the ongoing journey of my current piece, though sharing process work isn't easy for me. Because I don't know what the outcome will be, I don't know if this work will turn out good enough to share. This artwork is pure experimentation - I have an idea of what I want, but I'm not even certain if it's possible with the medium I've chosen.

I really love how the transparent and vibrant colours interact with each other. Unlike digital art, this piece embraces its physical nature - every mark, every "mistake" becomes part of its history. There's an honesty in having to commit each brushstroke permanently to the paper. I do my best and blend the unexpected slips of the hand into the whole, much like we do in life.
Continuing with the background, I've been working through what I call the Ugly Phase - that challenging middle stage every piece goes through. While filling in shapes and adding layers, I've found an unexpected calm in the repetitive nature of the work. The darks are going on now, beginning to add depth and mystery to the piece.

As the background darkens, the fight between foreground and background is settling into balance. The piece looks quite psychedelic right now, and I'm not mad at that. The feeling of mysterious energy and connection is starting to emerge more strongly. While the background might seem powerful compared to the foreground, perhaps that's fitting - after all, this painting is about the mysterious connections rather than the plants themselves.
I've been making the energy tendrils thinner, especially in places where they arent interacting. These delicate, wispy areas have become my favourite parts, looking like they're dancing across the surface, which feels right for this piece.
Thank you for joining me in this vulnerable part of the creative process.
All the best,
Olivia
